Justin “ZeeJustin†Bonomo has become the latest brand ambassador for the Bodog Group.
He joins a galaxy of eminent poker stars like David Williams, Evelyn Ng and Jean-Robert Bellande. As a member of Team Bodog, Bonomo will represent the group in both online and major land tournaments.
Bonomo’s rise in the world of live poker has been meteoric. At 19 years and 5 months he was the youngest player to make a European Poker Table in 2005. On turning 21 he brought his success to America cashing three times in the 2007 WSOP. Bonomo’s live tournament winnings have already crossed the $1 million mark.
Alwyn Morris of the Mohawk Gaming Group, which owns the Bodog brand in America, was all praise for Bonomo. Morris went on record saying, “Justin is one of the most feared and skilled players in poker today and we’re thrilled to officially have him join our team of world-class poker pros. Justin Bonomo lives and breathes the Bodog lifestyle and is a perfect fit for us. We expect him to make a lot of noise this year for Team Bodog, beginning with the WSOP this summer.â€
In an interview with PokerNews Bonomo spoke about the Bodog deal and other poker issues. He revealed that he has been friends with members of the Bodog Team for quite some time. He has played a few tournaments for Bodog and since then he has dreamt of joining the team. He will be making his debut for Bodog in the World Series in June and would love to win a bracelet for them. Bonomo envisages playing 16 hours a day throughout the WSOP, participating in about 25 events. He admits that this is a grueling schedule but he has done it last year. The more he plays the greater is the chance of winning that coveted bracelet.
Bonomo is a bit sad that Calvin Ayre retired from Bodog just before he joined. Though Ayre’s rags to riches story has always been an inspiration for Bonomo, there are no plans to step into Ayre’s shoes. Bonomo’s immediate plans are a little bit more modest. If he can imitate David Williams life style, that will suffice.
Bonomo has been playing poker since he was thirteen. He was passionate about the game and an avid learner. He first began playing online and then easily made the transition to live games. Bonomo’s strength is that he believes that one is always learning at poker. Therefore he is always becoming better. His favorite tournament players are David Pham and JC Tran. He has also gained lot of respect for Allen Cunningham, with whom he played on the final table at the Caesars event last week.
The interview ultimately veered around to Bonomo the person as against Bonomo the poker player. Bonomo the person loves music and goes to concerts regularly. He also likes to unwind with friends whenever he is home in Los Angeles or in Las Vegas. Like all poker players Bonomo is large hearted and supports a charity known as Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence, an organization that is working to reverse the effects of human aging.
